  • The broken group islands

Today was our last action packed day on the sweet 16 west coast adventure. It was also our day for kayaking the broken group islands near Uclulet. Once we arrived and got all our gear together we headed off in the boat towards the islands. On the way over we had the chance to see some harbor seals sitting on a rock. As we continued we were told to keep our eyes open for any whales unfortunately on the way over we did not see any whales. Once we were at our drop off destination our guides got our kayaks off the boat and got them prepared for us and showed us how to put on all the gear. Because I was the closest to one of our guides I became the model. Part of the gear...

  • Surfs up day 2

Today we began day 2 of our surfing lessons. My dad and I had already rented gear because we wanted to continue surfing during the afternoon. So once everyone was all set up and on the beach we went over the technique for surfing the green wave. A green wave is one that has not yet broken and has no white water. We also went over what can affect the surfing in the area. We then practiced our pop up and got in the water for a few warm up runs. Once we were warmed up we had the option of searching for that green wave or staying back to practice standing up. My dad went on to learn to catch the green wave while I stayed back because I had issues standing up so I spent t...

  • Surf’s up!

Today was one of the days I was looking forward to the most. Today we went surfing. It was my first time surfing an I was so excited! When we arrived at tue surf sisters shop we filled out the paper work, did a quick role call and headed off the the beach. Once at the beach we got our wet suits and boots to put on. While putting on our wet suits I look over at my dad and notice his wet suit is on backwards. As funny as it was I had to tell him the problem so he could fix it. Then we got surf sister T-shirts so that the instructors could tell us apart from the other surfers. Well my dad gets his shirt and what does he do? He puts it on backwards and inside out. By thi...

  • Gone fishing

Today was a very exciting and early morning. We woke up at about 4:30am and left for Uclulet by 5am for our fishing trip. We could tell the day was going to be interesting because about halfway there we saw a black bear running across the road. Once we had arrived at the docks and left with our guide we saw a bald eagle sitting on the shore eating something and a little further down another black bear by the waters edge. Because it was supposed to get relatively windy further out we stayed in closer to the island. Once we had found our spot Bill, our guide, set up the lines and we started trolling along. It took us a while to hook a fish but we got one and my dad had...

  • Tofino

Today a uneventful as it may have been was still full of new sights. I had never been to Tofino so this is my first time and I must say I am very impressed. Once we got off the ferry and were were at the junction between Uclulet and Tofino we headed down toward Uclulet to see where we were meeting up with our fishing guide. We met up with him and chatted a bit about where we will be going and when we will be meeting him there. I must say I am going to be so tired tomorrow because I have to get up at 4:30am. Once we figured out where to go we headed up to Tofino to check in to our hotel. I must say that our hotel is really cool. It has a native American kind of feel t...

  • Vancouver aquarium

Today is the first official day of my sweet 16 adventure. We started our trip with a visit to the Vancouver aquarium. I had never been to the aquarium and thought it would be pretty cool. Right off the bat we saw a tank that had a few diffrent typed of fish in it including a couple giant sturgeon. Because we did not have any breakfast yet we walked outside and saw a couple otters cleaning themselves, and me being such a girl took one look at them and though awe they are so cute! After a few pictures we continued on our journey to find food. We found some over by the beluga whale tank and sat down for a bit to eat then went to watch the belugas. I must say I was almos...
